President Donald Trump will travel to Asia this fall for three summits with leaders from the region, Vice President Mike Pence announced Thursday.
In November, Trump will attend the U.S.-ASEAN summit and the East Asia summit in the Philippines and will also travel to Vietnam for the APEC summit, Pence said in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Our relationship has benefited both ASEAN and the United States,” Pence said, according to the press pool traveling with him on his multiday, multination trip through Asia. The relationship between ASAEAN and the U.S. is a “strategic partnership,” the vice president said.
ASEAN is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Pence also said ASEAN has “promoted prosperity and security” not just among the organization’s members but also across the entire Asia-Pacific region.
